I attended to Saint Andrew's Bilingual School in La Paz, Bolívia in 2015, and I attended Brasília's Military School (in Brazil) between 2016 and 2017. I was approved early at the UnB's entrance exam, starting my journey as a Computer Engineer in late 2017. After a few years as an undergraduate researcher and as an intern in two different companies, I graduated in 2023 with maximum marks in my final paper presentation, covering Python development and websemantics, mapping a knowledge-intensive process at a dynamic newsroom (Jornal Metrópoles).
I am currently a full-time software developer at Banco do Brasil.

My life so far

I was born in Plano, Texas (USA) in the year 1999, but I grew up mainly in the capital of Brazil, Brasília. I always got nice grades at math related subjects when I was going to school, and I got into computers because of my dad, who also is a Computer Engineer. I think that I am able to say that I was lucky to have a clear path in my head regarding what I liked to do even when I was much younger. I lived in a few different cities in Brazil (including Manaus and Rio de Janeiro), and I got the chance to be an exchange student in La Paz, Bolívia (I attended Saint Andrew's School in 2015). That was a great life changing experience that helped me develop Spanish as my third language. I completed High School at Brasília’s Military School in June, 2017. During that period I was very interested in drawing, which resulted in a publication of one of my drawings in the school's annual arts magazine (Garança Poética). At the moment I still eventually go to my old school with the intention of saying hello to some of my dear old teachers, and of course, to get a nice "military haircut" of some sort. If you ever get the chance, check out my yearbook, It's at the school's library.

I'm a native Portuguese speaker, but I got my Certificate of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE C1) in 2020 and my Cambridge C1 Certificate (199 Score) in the end of 2021. If freedom is to "understand and be understood", keeping up with foreign languages is essential!

Going to University of Brasília was a no brainer, and easily one of the best decisions of my life. The University of Brasilia is one of the best educational institutions in Brazil, with a very competitive admission test. The undergraduate program in Computer Engineering is recognized as one of the best in the country, consistently reaching the highest score in the Enade (Brazil's National Student Performance Examination). I joined UnB in 2017, when I was allowed to finish school a few months early to dedicate myself 100% to being an CE student. College was the perfect environment for the immeasurable personal development that helped me roll up my sleeves and pursue my personal goals, something that I was never fully able to do in school (since I knew I wanted to pursue Engineering as soon as possible).

I was part of a research group related to Information Systems and Open Linked Data between 2020 and 2021, and also between 2022 and 2023 as I did my Undergraduate Final Thesis as a prerequisite for completing my journey in college, financed by FAP-DF (Federal District's Research Support Foundation). My Undergraduate Final Thesis is presented below in my portifolio as "Calliandra Project".

As an undergraduate researcher, my work was recognized as one of the best at my University at that given year. I kept exploring web semantics for my course's final thesis, wich generated a couple of academic articles alongside my written final paper. Once I finished this research, me and my dissertation advisor realized that I ended up doing something that has not been previusly published, being an eligible line of research for a Master's program. Here is the link to my final paper, in Portuguese.

I was an intern twice during my graduation, at Avanzzo (a thriving national business in the retail field) and then at Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency).

I am currently pursuing further education in Backend Development and Data Science/Data Engineering and working as a full time IT Analyst at Banco do Brasil.

Professional Experiences

After I graduated, I became a backend developer (NestJs/Serverless) and briefly worked with automation and NLP (Python) at Tarken.

Tarken is a company that integrates the agroindustrial companies to automate sales and credit, optimizing decision making. The company offers a series of products for agrobusiness, such as the Inspector, which allows analyzing the rural producer based on his CPF or CNPJ, evaluating production history, financial data, infrastructure and assets, as well as agricultural and sustainability risks. Tarken also offers ESG solutions, which allow assessing the sustainability of the average rural producer in Brazil.

Later in 2023, I was approved in a public exam (selected among over 1 million candidates) for Banco do Brasil S.A. (English: Bank of Brazil). I was part of the first group of people called up due to my good general classification (I ranked 143rd among the 2000 approved for the IT jobs available). I started on October 5th at UAN - Banco do Brasil's Analytical Intelligence Unit in Brasília, Federal District, for a position of the Bank's technology departament.

Banco do Brasil is one of the oldest banks in continuous operation in the world. It was founded by John VI, King of Portugal, in 1808. It's one of the most profitable banks in Brazil, and one of the largest banks in the world. Banco do Brasil is currently partially owned by the Brazilian government.

Summary of Participation in Events

I presented my websemantics research (work in progress as an undergraduate researcher) at:

  • 2022 WPOS (UnB's Computer Science Departament Workshop)
  • 27th Congress of Scientific Initiation of UnB/18th Congress of Scientific Initiation of Distrito Federal
  • UnB as an organizor of an extension activity that was part of the Digital Journalistic Writing course (in late 2022, Unb's "Semana Universitária")

Finally, I would like to share that I attended Brasília's Campus Party multiple times as a student.
